What to expect at Riksgränsen
Riksgränsen is a resort with no roads in winter, it is only reachable by train from Kiruna, which is itself 200 km north of the Arctic Circle. The season doesn't even open until February because there isn't enough daylight, and it runs into midsummer with midnight-sun skiing until midsummer's eve. The lift-served area is small (25 km, 6 lifts) but the tundra all around is skiable in every direction and heli-drops are readily available. The off-piste terrain, the absence of trees, and the light are unlike anywhere else in Europe, closest analogue is Alaska. Not a beginner's mountain, but a lifetime trip for a strong skier.
