What to expect at Jasná
Jasná is a genuine surprise. Tucked into Slovakia's Low Tatras national park at 2,024 m, it has 46 km of piste on both the north (colder, longer) and south (sunny cruising) sides of Chopok. The Chopok Sever cable car is a Doppelmayr 15-person unit installed in the 2010s, modern by any European standard. Off-piste has become the resort's calling card among European powder chasers: the north face is genuinely serious and the whole thing is easily half the price of the Alps. Base villages are functional rather than charming, but the traditional wooden villages of Liptov below the resort, Vlkolínec, on the UNESCO list, are worth a rest-day drive.
