Risoul
Sunny Forêt Blanche resort linked to Vars, popular with families and freestylers.
What to expect at Risoul
Risoul is one of the sunniest resorts in the French Alps, on a south-facing shelf at 1,850 m in the Hautes-Alpes. The village is a car-free purpose build from the 1970s with a compact wooden-clad feel rather than concrete tower blocks, and it links across a shared ridge to Vars into the 185 km Forêt Blanche area. Because of the elevation and the south exposure the mornings are cold and the afternoons blaze; grooming teams work hard to keep the softening pistes rideable into the afternoon. It is genuinely family-friendly with a strong ski school culture, and the pricing is far more approachable than the northern Alps.
