What to expect at Narvikfjellet

Narvikfjellet is one of the most dramatic ski resorts in Europe by setting alone, a small area rising directly out of Narvik town on the fjord at 3 m, up to 1,001 m in three lifts. It is not a big resort by piste kilometres (14 km) but the off-piste terrain in the mountains behind is enormous, and the light in March and April, above the Arctic Circle, is extraordinary. Heli-skiing runs from Narvik operate on the same mountain range, dropping to sea level onto black sand beaches. The town below has a dark WWII history well told at the war museum. Not a beginner destination.
