What to expect at Chamrousse

Chamrousse is Grenoble's local mountain, 30 minutes from the city and rising to 2,250 m on the Croix de Chamrousse. It hosted the 1968 Winter Olympics, Jean-Claude Killy took three golds here, and the downhill race trail is still marked and skiable. Village life is split across two bases: 1650 for a compact traditional feel, 1750 higher up and better for ski-in ski-out apartments. Skiing is a proper 90 km on gently spaced trees and open bowls, and the resort is a natural weekender for anyone who can get to Grenoble on the train from Paris in three hours. Prices are far below the Tarentaise big names.
