What to expect at Ellmau

Ellmau is the postcard face of the SkiWelt, Austria's largest linked ski area, 288 km of piste around a ring of low mountains at the foot of the Wilder Kaiser. The village at 620 m has been a Bergdoktor filming location for the last 20 years and looks the part: whitewashed houses, painted shutters, church spires. Skiing is mostly gentle, tree-lined and family-friendly, and the low base means it is one of the first Austrian resorts to open snowmaking at scale each November. The Hartkaiserbahn funicular is a fast route onto the main network at 1,600 m; from there you can circle the whole SkiWelt in a big day.
