What to expect at Gerlos
Gerlos is the middle village of the Zillertal Arena, at 1,250 m at the head of the Zillertal valley. The Arena is 143 km of piste linking three sectors up to 2,500 m on the Übergangsjoch, and Gerlos is the quieter, more family-oriented alternative to Mayrhofen down the valley. The village strings along a single road with hotels and pensions rather than the towering resort blocks of higher French resorts. Snow reliability is helped by the altitude and by the aspect: much of the terrain is north-facing. In the summer the same lifts open onto a spectacular alpine road, the Gerlos Alpine Road, over into Salzburg.
