What to expect at St. Johann in Tirol

St. Johann in Tirol is a traditional market town at the foot of the Kitzbüheler Horn, with a proper year-round life underneath its ski resort identity. Skiing is a compact 43 km on the Horn's north face, largely intermediate cruising, and the low base makes lower runs weather-dependent in a mild winter. The town hosts one of the largest hot-air balloon festivals in Europe every January, so the sky is full of colour for a week. It's a good value alternative to Kitzbühel across the ridge, same character, half the price, and only 10 km down the road if you fancy a lift-day at the more famous neighbour.
