What to expect at Nassfeld
Nassfeld is Carinthia's biggest resort, on the Italian border in the Karnische Alpen. Skiing runs from Tröpolach at 610 m up to the Trogkofel at 2,020 m, 110 km of piste that face all directions and catch a lot of sun. It is a genuine cross-border resort, the Millennium-Express, the longest gondola in the Eastern Alps, climbs 6 km and drops skiers into a lift system that touches Italian territory. The village strung along the Gail valley is workmanlike, but the geothermal Aquarena spa in Tröpolach is a serious rest-day facility, and Slovenia's Julian Alps are visible from the summit lifts.
