What to expect at Kirchberg

Part of the Austrian Tyrol, Kirchberg sits in the Brixental valley just 6km from its famous neighbour Kitzbühel, but with a character that's all its own. Kirchberg stays relaxed, and this is a proper Tyrolean village: a church steeple at its centre, family-run guesthouses along the streets, and a warmth that feels earned rather than curated. Kirchberg appeals to skiers who want easy access to a major ski area without the polish and crowds of a headline resort.

As part of the KitzSki area, Kirchberg shares 233km of groomed pistes with Kitzbühel, including the legendary Hahnenkamm downhill course. Terrain spans from 800m to 2,000m, served by 58 modern lifts including gondolas, high-speed quads, and six-seaters that keep queues short. For those wanting more slope exploration, SkiWelt is just a short ski bus ride away, opening up over 275km of additional pistes. The season typically runs from early November through to late April, backed by extensive snowmaking systems.

Away from the slopes, Kirchberg has a lively après-ski scene that surprises first-time visitors, with the village centre buzzing from mid-afternoon well into the night. Dining ranges from traditional Tyrolean Gasthöfe to modern restaurants, and winter activities include the floodlit Gaisberg toboggan run, snowshoeing, and ice skating. Many local hotels have spa facilities, and the village layout is compact enough to navigate easily on foot.
