What to expect at Planai Schladming
Planai is the flagship mountain above Schladming and the venue of one of the biggest events on the ski calendar, The Nightrace on the Planai course, run under floodlights each January in front of a crowd of 45,000. The lift system serves 123 km of piste on Planai and neighbouring Hochwurzen, all connected on the Ski Amadé pass. Grooming is Austrian at its most obsessive; the pistes at 6:00 AM look like corduroy sheets. Schladming town itself is a proper Styrian working town in the valley rather than a purpose-built resort, with a big central square, hotel choice, and its own train station on the Vienna line.
