What to expect at Silvretta Montafon

Silvretta Montafon spans the Hochjoch and Nova sectors above the Montafon valley in Vorarlberg. Combined they total 141 km of piste with a top height of 2,430 m, all served by modern lifts, including the Grasjoch bahn linking the two sectors. The Black Scorpion is Austria's steepest groomed piste at a 79% gradient, and the Nova park has a season-long freestyle programme that draws serious riders. The valley base villages, Schruns, St Gallenkirch and Gaschurn, still feel like working alpine towns rather than resort centres, and there is proper ski touring straight from the lifts into the Silvretta and Verwall ranges.
